Smoke and Mirrors was founded in 2025 by Kayla Bowcher, a natural health, style and design lover who wanted a creative outlet.

‘I love candles and love pure essential oils. I am passionate about creating a healthy, peaceful and relaxing home environment and am such a big believer of the momentous impact that our home environment has on us as individuals on so many levels - mentally, emotionally, spiritually, physically.

After i begin this journey, It didn’t take me long to realise, it is so hard to find totally non-toxic candles, anywhere. The closest you can generally get is an essential oil/fragrance oil blend. If you know your essential oils, you will recognise this quickly! A lot of people are uneducated in this field and will purchase toxic candles believing that they are ‘natural ones’. It is no secret as to the harm that toxic candles can have on human health. 

Smoke and Mirrors candles won’t intensely smell the house out (and give you a headache amongst other things), they are instead more subtle but beautiful, curated therapeutic blends. If you would like the smell to be more obvious, i would place them in smaller spaces. Making our essential oil candles is much more complex than making a fragrance oil candle and there are more considerations around flash points, temperatures, blends and other factors which contribute to an oils compatibility in a candle.
